Cause/Effect

In my high school days, most my friends and I thought we were tough guys and we would get into a lot of fights. The one fight that sticks out to me most was when we fought most of the Jocks at our school, Weber High. The main thing that started the brawl was when this random kid came and swung on my friend Tyler in the commons area. The kid missed Tyler when he swung so nothing happened that day and we didnt think anything would pop up after.
The next day I remember all the Jocks were angry about their friend swinging on us but their anger wasn't towards their friend, for some reason their anger was towards us. After second period I remember walking through the halls and everyone was asking us what happened and everyone was asking where the fight was going to happen at. All my friends laughed about it because we had no clue what was going on till lunch time. The kid and some Jocks came up to us and told us they want to finish what we started, we laughed at them because we didn't start anything. Because we laughed, they got more mad and told us we needed to meet up at Ben Lomond Park right after school.
After school we went to the park, as we drove into the park I remember seeing girls with slurpees, and a bunch of sophomore kids hanging out and running around, i felt like we were coming to a high school event not a fight! We got out of our cars (we had 3 cars full) and right off the bat, Tyler and the kid who swung on him at the school started fighting. Everyone was crowded around them but then all of a sudden this other kid came and swung on my friend Jakob. That one kid started the whole brawl off, I remember looking at how many people were fighting my friends and I remember the ratio being about 7 Jock to 1 of my friends. Even though we were definitely the underdogs, we still did a lot better than I thought we would ever do. That fight lasted maybe 4 minutes until the cops showed up, I felt like it was 4 hours though.
The cause/effect of the fight was that after, the Jocks started having respect for us because they knew that we wouldn't back down. After that fight happened, some of the jocks actually came to a couple other fights we were in and they helped us out.

My Purpose:

Lately it seems like most my friends have been getting into their "Party" stage. We had roughly 20 straight edge kids in our group.. this year theirs 7. In a way it's cool cause i get to see who's being true to themselves, the bad side of it is that no one in my group of friends hangs out anymore. the partiers go party, the straight edge kids play COD. I feel like right now my purpose in life is to try setting an example and try getting my friends to actually hang out again WITHOUT alcohol being present. I don't think their will be a day that all my friends could all go to the same house and have a good time with out alcohol though. It sucks...

Who I Am:

My full name is Garrett Joseph-James Barker Boweter. I have two middle names because i've been told my two grandfathers wanted me to have their middle names, my parents didn't want to fight about it so they gave me both. I also have two last names, my biological parents weren't making good choices when I was a kid so my sister, brother, and I lived at my grandparents.
When i was 8 years old my grandparents decided they wanted to adopt us out to another family. I remember they wouldn't let any family split the 3 of us up. A family came down from Ogden one day and they wanted all 3 of us to live with them, one month later we were finally adopted.
The Barkers had a nice house and they were nice people. They were a Mormon family and we didn't even know about god. They introduced us to the church that same week we lived with them. The 3 of us were excited because we met a lot of people our age and we made a lot of friends to hang out with. A couple months later, we were adopted into the LDS church. Everything went good with the Barkers and me. They had problems with my other siblings, they kicked my brother and sister out when they turned 16 because they stopped believing in the church.
From the time I was 14 to 16 i lived with them alone. When I was 15 I started rebelling against them. I took my moms car, stole money out of her purse, and used her riding lawn mower as a four-wheeler and made their back yard into a mud pit. I got pulled over when I stole her car a couple times, I was sent to Detention, got a couple Joy Riding tickets on my record, couple a Grand Theft Auto tickets as well. The final incident that got me kicked out of that house was when my moms purse got stolen. She had around $1000 in it along with a couple of passports they needed because they were going to Hawaii. Of all the times i stole money out of her purse, I PROMISE that was not me.
I got kicked out of the house, by that time my biological mother was out of prison and she was back on her feet. I went to Kearns High my junior and senior year. Senior year I took the TV News class and fell in love. My teacher, Steve Treseder, and I became really close friends through this class. One day, I was editing a story on the blood drive, I turned around and Treseder was talking to an old buddy from KSL. T brought this guy to me and he said he wanted to look at my work. I showed him my story and he liked it a lot. He told me to make a demo tape and to give him a call once I made one. I made the demo tape and called him, he talked to Bob Brown about me and Bob Brown like what he heard so I was scheduled for an interview. I went in for the interview and got the job!
I've been working at KSL for 1 year and 5 months now and I love it. I moved out of my parents house as soon as I could after I got the job too. So, now I live in an apartment complex, work 4 days out of the week at KSL, go to school 2 days out of the week, play xbox 360 and hang out with my girlfriend for the rest of the time. My life was pretty rough between the ages 7-16, I'm glad they were rough though because its made me strong.
